Double-Hung Window

The steps below will guide you through removing your current double-hung window sash and installing your new window sash. Use the given diagrams to help locate each part required to complete your window sash replacement.

Step 1: Unlock Window

From inside, unlock your window and raise the bottom sash about 3 inches. Simultaneously slide both tilt latches (A) toward the center of the window.

Step 2: Pull Up The Sash

While holding the latches in, gently pull the top of the sash toward you, swinging it down until it is at a 90-degree angle.

Step 3: Raise Out of the Balancer

Grasp the sash on both sides near the window frame and raise one side out of the balancer (C), then lift the other side to remove the sash. You are now ready to place the new sash into the window frame.

Step 4: Locate the Pivot Bars

Locate the pivot bars (B) on both sides of the bottom of the sash. Place one pivot bar into the balance (C), and then the other, pressing down firmly to ensure they are securely in place.

Step 5: Raise Top of Sash

Raise the top of the sash back towards the window frame, and push it into place until you hear the tilt-latches click.

Step 6: Slide Sash Down

Slide the sash down to close the window and secure the locks.
